Find a Great Wii ISO Download and Actually Play It

Have you ever tried to convert a Wii ISO Download into a playable disc? 

If so, then you’ve probably realized that it’s not as simple as just burning a music album, or even a DVD movie, to disc. 

Once you’ve located a great Wii ISO Download website, there are 3 Major Steps that you need to worry about before you can get from this point to actually loading a disc into your Wii and playing the game.

Step 1:  Download the .ISO file

First of all, what is a .ISO file?  Wikipedia has a great write up here, but basically it is just a file format that a computer or game system can boot from.  All Wii games have to be in .ISO format for a Wii to be able to play them.

It may seem intuitive, but finding a reputable (and legal) Wii ISO Download website is harder than it sounds.  You can always try downloading from ISOHunt or the Pirate Bay, but realize that this is illegal, and I cannot recommend it in good conscience.

Generally, if you are getting an ISO file for free, it is probably not legal, and there is a good chance that it’ll be infected with a virus.  You’ll want to look for a website that has some kind of low price subscription model where you can download full version games on an unlimited basis. 

Step 2:  Burn the ISO file to disc

Again – Not as easy as it sounds.  You cannot simply burn your Wii ISO download to disc as you would burn a CD of your favorite Lady Gaga tracks.  The .ISO file needs to be burned in bootable format. 

Your best bet here is to download a great little piece of software that I highly recommend called IMGBurn.  It’s free, intuitive, and easy to use.  If you can burn a music CD with iTunes, you will be able to burn an ISO with IMGBurn.

Step 3: Hack your Wii

Nintendo is a smart company.  They’ve locked their game systems down so that you can’t natively play downloaded or burned games on them.  That would cut into their massive profits right?

There are, however, methods for getting around this little problem so that you can play your Wii game downloads without any trouble.  They include:

• Installing a Mod Chip – This involves purchasing a piece of hardware (you can find them on eBay for $150 or so) and installing it inside your Wii.  It tricks the Wii into playing downloaded games from a hardware level.  The problem here is that this voids your warranty and you risk damage to your system if you don’t know what you’re doing.
• Installing a Hacked OS – This is a method of tricking your Wii into playing these games from a software level.  It’s fairly “techie” and “geeky”, but you should be able to find instructions on it.  It won’t void your warranty, but if you screw it up, your Wii will no longer boot until you fix the OS.
• Use a 3rd-Party ISO Burner – While IMGburn is free, there are ISO burning programs out there that will burn with the encryption that your Wii expects and make it play the game with no further hacks.  They tend to run about $100.  I have not been able to find one that is spyware and adware free and that is intuitive to use, so I can’t really give a recommendation in good conscience at this time.

I’ve been using a great little system that skips the whole Wii ISO Download process, and allows you to download games directly to your Wii’s hard drive.
